Trade Wind
Trade wind is a Tahiti Ketch. It is a boat known for its rugged seaworthiness in a small package. Designed by John Hanna and popularized by the plans being published in “Mechanix Illustrated.” Many were built to those plans in backyards and this one was no exception. The son of the builder wanted to honor the legacy of the boat so we turned her into a museum piece for the families future generations to enjoy. The vision was for her to be cut at the waterline and set in the owner rec barn. We fabricated custom steel truss work to take the load that would have been spread to the frames and keel. Casters were installed so it could be moved around on a concrete slab. Once sat down she has 3/4” of clearance from the cut waterline to the slab, giving the appearance she is sitting on her waterline at sea.
